On behalf of all the members of the European ERASMUS+ project entitled, “Enhancing Differentiated Instruction and Cognitive Activation in Mathematics Lessons by Supporting Teacher Learning (EDUCATE), I would like to welcome you to our project’s platform. Sponsored by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union, the transnational project EDUCATE aimed at integrating cognitive activation through the use of challenging mathematics tasks and differentiation. Recognizing the importance of supporting teachers when working on challenging tasks with all their students, during 2017-2019, academics, teacher educators, and teachers from Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, and Portugal have collaborated on developing materials toward this goal. These materials have been vetted for a year in different sites in the four aforementioned countries, while working with prospective and practicing primary and secondary school teachers.

This platform, sponsored by the University of Cyprus, hosts the final version of the materials after they have been revised, based on our interactions with almost a hundred teachers. Whether you are a teacher or a teacher educator, the materials (in the form of five different modules for teachers and five additional accompanying modules for teacher educators) can help you delve deeper into the interplay between the work on challenging tasks and differentiation. Through a series of activities, you will have the opportunity to consider how working on challenging tasks for all students looks during different phases of teaching, including lesson planning, student autonomous work, whole-class discussion, and while trying to create a classroom culture that nurtures this work. Upon completion of each module, you will be receiving a certificate of completion.

Should you have any questions or if you have any feedback for either the project or the platform, please do not hesitate to contact us.
